The MOST IMPORTANT factor in achieving a high search engine ranking (and tons of traffic) is the total number of web pages on the internet with links pointing TO your web site.

These links are called 'Inbound Links', and each one represents a vote (from the search engine perspective) towards your sites popularity. The more votes you receive, the more popular your site, the higher ranking (or PageRank - explained below) you earn, which means more traffic!

Aggressive link building MUST be part of your strategy if you are serious about increasing your sites popularity and traffic.

Link building can be a very time consuming and tedious process, but the potential upside in higher page rank and increased traffic makes it well worth the effort. So just how many inbound links do you need to get high rankings? That depends on the number of inbound links your higher-ranking competitors have. What is PageRank?

Reciprocal links are based on an agreement by two sites to link to each other. Reciprocal linking is often used by small/midsize sites as an inexpensive way to increase Web site traffic and link popularity.

Reciprocal links are great for ensuring quality and relevant content is linking to your website. When looking for link candidates, start by searching your keywords on major search engines. You will no doubt see lots of websites that compete with yours, but try to find the non-competing, complementary sites.

Visit and screen these sites carefully, selecting only those likely to be receptive to your link request. Provide them with a great reason to link to your website. You might want to even link to them first, which could improve your chances of getting a reciprocal link. Give them a compelling reason to link to your site. Show them where a link might be advantageous. A good strategy is to link to them first, which might help get a link back.

Be sure to target respected and popular sites that are relevant to your target audience. If you want to take it one step further, identify well-established sites with good content that targets the same audience you want to reach. Perform a link analysis on that site, noting the incoming links and soliciting the best non-competing sites.
